-------------------------
Ethan Neill Rogers Jr. of Vinton was called home by his Lord and Savior Friday, June 17, 2016. He was a son of the late Rev. Ethan Neill Rogers Sr. and Florence Butler Rogers.

Ethan was born in East Weymouth, Mass., April 8, 1925. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Clara Rogers Cutting; brothers, James Rogers, and Robert (Bruce) Rogers; niece Florence Taitt; and sister-in-law, Maxine Rogers.

Ethan was an active and faithful member of the Hollins Road Baptist Church. There he was a member of the Joyful Servants Sunday School Class of which he was the teacher for many years. Ethan served as a deacon for 50-plus years and taught Sunday School for more than 44 years.

Ethan proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II serving in the South Pacific aboard the light cruiser, "Mobile", "for a lot of action". Ethan worked as a Vo-Tech teacher in Danville and Roanoke before retiring from Roanoke City Public Schools.

He will be greatly missed by many people whose lives he touched through his love, caring, hugs and a good clean joke. He never met a stranger. He was a loving dedicated husband, son, brother, uncle, godfather and friend.

Those left to cherish his life are "the love of his life", his wife of almost 66 years, Hattie Mae Teaford Rogers; sister-in-law, Janit Rogers; several nephews, nieces, cousins; four godsons, and special friends, Joann Simmons and Linda Parks.
