Funeral Service: 12:00 Noon February 22, 2003 at St. Peter Catholic Church
Interment: Entombment with military honors will be in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum

He was born in Freeport, Illinois to Clarence J. Hughes and Lorena L. Jogerst Hughes. He was married on February 8, 1947 in Jefferson City to Alma Marie Kemna who died on February 3, 1999. Survivors include three daughters, Janice A. Hughes, Kansas City; Mary Lou Hines, Fairfax, Virgina; and Brenda Scheppers, Jefferson City; and five granchildren.

He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World Was II, receiving a Presidential Citation, Legion of Merit, and Chinese Citation.

He was a 1937 graduate of Aquin High School, Freeport, Illinois.

He was employed with the Roy Scheperle Construction Co. for eleven years and twenty years with the State of Missouri, most recently as Chief Accountant and Budget Officer with the Departemnt of Consumeer Affairs until retiring in 1981. He also operated a private accounting and tax service in Jefferson City until 1987.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Peter Capital Improvement Fund; or the Helias High School Building Fund.
