Lovell was the youngest son of Robert and Sarah (Chubb) Snow. He first married Sarah "Sally" Maynard on 7 Apr 1791 in Ashford, Windham County, Connecticut. They had a son Robert and two daughters. Sarah received a divorce from Lovell on 2 Sep 1802 accusing him of desertion. Lovell then married Freelove Aurilla Dutcher 31 Jan 1821 in York, Athens County, Ohio. They had 6 sons of which 4 lived to adulthood. In 1828 oral family history states Lovell and his family were living in a cave near a river in Meigs County, Ohio. Freelove was was very unhappy and pregnant with their son Philander, so one day she left Lovell and the boys. The story continues that Lovell didn't know what to do so he told the children to go play with their friends along the river and go home with them. We next find Lovell in 1850 married to Harriet (Brown) in Whitley County, Indiana. They have three daughters. Emily, Lucy Ann and Hannah. It is believed he died about 1851 in Whitley County.
