Mrs. Pearlen Gragg Woody, age 89, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2016 at Caldwell UNC Healthcare. She was born in Richland, VA on June 18, 1927 to the late Joseph Gragg and Celia Woodruff Gragg. She was married for 70 years to Truman Steve Woody of the residence.

Mrs. Woody worked for Shuford Mills for 15 years before going to work for Bernhardt Furniture, where she worked for 25 years before retiring. She was a lifetime member of Liberty Baptist Church where she belonged to the Women’s Circle. Mrs. Woody loved to sing at church with the Liberty Gospel Singers and could often be found singing at area nursing homes.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters, Lillie Mae Hollander; Cordelia Barnes; Artelia Ellis; Altia Gragg; brothers, Alfred Gragg and Taylor Gragg.

Other than her husband she is survived by her children, Gary Woody and wife, Shirley; Clifford Woodie and wife, Betty; Robert Woody; Morris “Marty” Woody and wife, Karla; and Randy Woody; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Audria Haas Cobb, Ruth Woody and Shelia Woody.

A celebration of Mrs. Woody’s life will be held at Liberty Baptist Church on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 3:00 PM with Pastor Dewey Bristol officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Ellis Cemetery.

Pall bearers will be Jason Woodie, Taylor Woody, Tracy Woody, Todd Woody, Tryon Haas, Jonathan Woody, Kurt Woody and Brandon Triplett.
