Born May 17, 1930, in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Leonard Vance and Juanita Hancock Johnson. She was retired from Exide Battery in Sumter and was a member of the VFW Ladies' Auxillary.
She was preceded in death by three children, Carol Devoll, Linda Humphries and Gail Turner; her first husband, Joseph "Jake" Cook; brothers, Woodrow Johnson, Willie Johnson, Joe Johnson, Robbie Johnson, Hillard Johnson and Edgebert Johnson; and sisters, Inez Arrants and Bunell McCoy.
