FRANKLIN W. COWLEY, 78, Venice, Sevier County, died in a Salt Lake hospital Thursday at 6:25 a.m. of complications following an operation.
A son of William Michael and Emily Wall Cowley, he was born Feb. 25, 1871, in Salt Lake City. He resided with his parents in Logan for five years as a child, moving later to Venice where he was engaged in farming until the time of his death.
An active worker in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mr. Cowley was a high priest in the Venice LDS Ward and had held various positions in the church.
He married Sara Vilate Whitney, March 30, 1893. They had 11 children. She died March 3, 1925, and he married Laura Waters, April 22, 1931.
Survivors, in addition to his widow include the following sons and daughters, Mrs. Laura C. Smith, Roy; Rodney C. Cowley, Venice; Mrs. Roda C. Breinholt, Waldamor W. Cowley and Mrs. Lucille C. Pope, all of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Dorothy C. Southam, Midvale; Carrol C. LeFevre, Elsinore, Sevier County; Mrs. Merlin C. Frasier, Clearfield; two sisters, Mrs. Emily Cowley Bench, Salt Lake City and Mrs. Lenora C. Kimsey, Klamath Falls, Oregon; two brothers, Edgar W. Cowley, Terra Bella, California and Wilford W. Cowley Richfield; 30 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 P.M. in the Venice LDS Ward by LaRue Miller, bishop.
