Missouri M. Pynes was the second child born to James Pynes and Winifred Register Pynes. Her father James served in the Alabama State Legislature for several years. She was married to William Wood, October 15, 1861. Her wedding was described in a book by Myra Appling. The Pynes home was filled with Cotton Blossoms for the event. Missouri and William Wood had a busy life. William was a successful local businesman who served as Postmaster several years before being elected to the Alabama State Senate. He also served as Mayor of Gordon, AL. He donated the land on which the Cemetery is located, being part of the family plantation. Missouri and William were parents of: Charlie Alice (m. Matthew "Big Daddy" Owens"), Winifred Lena (m.Edward F. Tuttle) , William Ballaro and an unnamed infant Wood. Missouri and William are at rest in Gordon Cemetery with their children.
