Gerry Appel, the daughter of Emil and Mayme (Kuehl) Carlson, was born on March 9, 1924 in Westbrook, MN. She grew up on a farm in Rose Hill Twp., Cottonwood County and attended Rose Hill Country School. Gerry graduated from the Westbrook High School in 1942.
She then moved to Minneapolis, MN where she worked at Kuehl and Becker Studios and later for the Ford Motor Co.
Gerry was united in marriage to Donald Appel on April 9, 1947 in Minneapolis, MN. After their marriage they lived and farmed east of Fulda, MN. After their retirement in the fall of 1984 they made their home in Worthington, MN. In October 2009 they moved to the Maplewood Courts in Fulda. She entered the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in February of 2012 and Don passed away in October of 2012.
Gerry passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda, MN at the age of 92.
She was a member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church where she belonged to the F.C.C.W. Gerry also belonged to the Belfast Busy Bells. She enjoyed gardening, wintering in Arizona, traveling on family trips, visiting with friends and family and spending time with her grandchildren. Gerry was a very dedicated and hard working farmwife.
Survivors include her three sons, Terry (Margie Clark) Appel of Fulda, MN, Tom (Mary) Appel of Fulda, MN and Todd (Donna Meyer) Appel of Little Rock, IA; 6 grandchildren, Jason Appel of Fulda, MN, Lindsay (Wes) Grimmius of Spirit Lake, IA, Matthew Appel of Fulda, MN, Andrew Appel of Mankato, MN, Bennett Appel and Kameryn Appel of Fulda, MN; 3 great-grandsons, Caleb, Aiden and Kole Appel of Fulda, MN and 2 sisters, Mary Ann DeMay of St. Paul, MN and Janice Ramert of Lennox, SD.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and grandson, Michael John Appel.

St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church Fulda, MN at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 with Msgr. R. Paul Heiting officiating. The organist is Mary Ann Boom. The song leader is Sheila Crowley. The pallbearers are her grandchildren. Interment at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery Fulda, MN.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church on Wednesday. The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda is assisting the family with arrangements.
