Sharon Marlene Higgins Adkins, 59, of Burnsville, unexpectedly left this world to join loved ones on Monday, June 20, 2016, at St. Joseph's Hospital. A native of Yancey County, she was born on June 18, 1957.

Sharon was the daughter of Wyman and Frances Wilson Higgins of Pensacola who preceded her in death, as did her grandparents Charlie and Joan Rathbone Wilson of Pensacola, and a younger sister, Chrysanne Higgins Griffith.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, June 25, at Yancey Funeral Services with a visitation from 4 until 5 p.m. followed by a short memorial service. Sharon would want everyone to dress casually and enjoy gathering with family, friends and neighbors as we remember this remarkable wife, mother, "mamaw," aunt, cousin, and caring friend to so many. At other times and following the celebration, the family will receive friends at the home of Melanie Adkins and Scot Haney at 619 Westside Road off Hwy 19E.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made in her name to Disabled American Veterans, Sgt. E.L. Randolph, Chapter 57, PO Box 868, Burnsville, NC 28714, or the charity or cause of your choice.
