Reuben was the son of George Washington Richardson and ... Weaver, one of ten children born to this couple.

He married Elizabeth Buis in 1822 at Tazewell, TN and they had eight children. After Elizabeth died, Reuben married Rebecca Wesley in 1848 and had eleven more children.
