Joseph Leon Pilkerton, 77, of Avenue, MD died on August 9, 2006 at his residence. Born on February 25, 1929 in Faulkner, MD. , he was the son of the late George Arthur and Jane Estelle Cox Pilkerton.

Mr. Pilkerton worked as a superintendent at the H.W. Nice Bridge for the State of Maryland Highway Administration. He served in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He loved to attend auctions, Bluegrass music, the Redskins and was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

He is survived by his wife Mary Agnes Copsey Pilkerton of Avenue, MD, two daughters, Gail Funderburk of Bushwood, MD, Jennifer Russell of California, MD, two sons, Charles A. Buckler of Charlotte Hall, MD and David A. Buckler of Hollywood, MD, two sisters, Gladys Ott of Oxon Hill, MD, Dorothy Pilkerton of La Plata, MD, five grandchildren, Christopher and his wife Mandy Yates, Ashley and her husband Billy Downs, Chucky Buckler, Amber Russell, Lauren Yates and great grandchildren BrayLee Downs, Nathan Buckler and soon to be twin great grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Dean, Mildred Bryant and five brothers, Joseph Allen, Willard, Frederick, Theodore and Ernest Pilkerton.
