"Mrs. Amelia E. Carson Of Pioneer Family Succumbs"

Mrs. Amelia E. Carson, 75, member of one of Eureka's pioneer families, died at her home, 615 J Street, Eureka, earlier today. She was born in Eureka May 21, 1872, and had lived here her entire life.

She was the wife of the late Sumner Carson who was prominent in the lumber industry here. Her husband was one of the four children of William Carson, early resident who built the fabulous Carson mansion, which later became the present Ingomar club.

Mrs. Carson lived quietly and simply in the palatial residence on J street, one of her main interests being her beautiful rhododendron and rose gardens. The stock for these gardens had originally been brought from England and the rhododendrons for many years have been famed throughout northern California as on of the finest in the land.

Another of her hobbies that gave her pleasure was a collection of buttons collected from all over the world.

She also had other rare treasures in her home, collected all over the world.

Mrs. Carson is survived by a half-sister, Mrs. Ethel Ohman Smith, Eureka, nieces and nephews, Clarence Coonan, San Francisco; Mrs. Harry M. Vance, Eureka; Fred Lundblade, Eureka; Charles Lundblade, Eureka; Mrs. Augusta Heckman, Eureka; Mrs. Eleanor Davis, Oakland; Mrs. Amy Vance Ley, Eureka; Mrs. Donald White, Berkeley, Mrs. Mary Bower, Rio Dell; Mrs. Dorothy Smith, Eureka; Mrs. Sterling Avery, San Francisco; Mrs. Pierce Quintrell, Eureka; Hubert Ohman, Scotia; and Walter I. Ohman, Eureka. A number of grand nieces and grand nephews also survive.

Funeral arrangements are pending under the direction of Pierce Mortuary.
