Rodney “Gene” Fisher, 72, of Grand Island died Saturday, June 18, 2016, at Wedgewood Care Center.

Celebration of Life Service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Gollaher Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church. The Rev. Russell Anderson will officiate. Burial of ashes will be at noon Thursday in the Greeley Cemetery. To honor his wishes, cremation has taken place. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family.

Rodney was born April 22, 1944, at Greeley, the son of George and Bertha (McMahan) Fisher.

He was raised on a farm near Greeley, graduating from Greeley High School, class of 1962. He married Elsie Collins. Later he was united in marriage to Gloria Goering on Aug. 14, 1982. Rodney worked at New Holland. He was a very hardworking man. With great strength and through hard-fought battles with his illness, he continued to be hardworking.

He was a Chevy Impala collector and enjoyed other classic cars. He was a charter member of Vintage and Classic Wheels of Grand Island and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline and Kurt Dockhorn of Grand Island; two stepdaughters, Melissa Sutton of Grand Island and Carrie Sautter of Illinois; his grandchildren, Alex, Nicole and Haleigh; two brothers, William Fisher of Missoula, Mont., and Boyd Fisher of Illinois; two sisters, Esther Bernt of Spalding and Joyce Costello of Greeley; and his good friends, Todd and Roberta Richardson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria; two brothers, Orval and Ivan; and a sister, Betty Johnson.
