Brenda Jean (Darrough) Crockett passed away peacefully with her family at her side on May 12, 2009 from complications caused by Lupus. She fought a courageous battle for over 30 years. Brenda was compassionate and caring and lived everyday to the fullest.

Brenda is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, father, sister, and her husband, brother, and his wife, her nephew, and his wife, niece, grandniece, and grandnephew. Brenda is preceded in death by her mother, Bettie Darrough.

Brenda worked in jobs that were not traditional for a young woman. She learned to carve headstones working for her Aunt and Uncle in Sutter. She attended the Operating Engineers Apprenticeship program and learned to operate heavy equipment. And while living a short time in Mesa, AZ, she worked in construction as a carpenter, and fueled airplanes at Falcon Field in Mesa. Brenda was forced to retire shortly after she was diagnosed with Lupus. While growing up in the little town of Sutter, Brenda participated in 4-H and was a member of the Royal Butte Riders actively riding and showing horses. Brenda was instrumental in forming the first Lupus Support Group in the Yuba-Sutter area.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 18, 2009, 10:00 am at Ullrey Memorial Chapel. Graveside services will be immediately following at Sutter Cemetery with David Kugelman officiating.
