ARCHER CITY - Gerald Judd Gray, age 68, of Archer City, passed away Friday, Aug. 12, 2005, in a Wichita Falls hospital.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005, in the Archer City High School Auditorium with Rev. Hubert Foust of Graham officiating. A private interment will follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Archer City.

Mr. Gray was born July 17, 1937, in Barton's Chapel to Marvin Everett Gray and Mary F. Helms Gray. He graduated from Graford High School in 1955 and then graduated from Texas Tech with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics and Vocational Agriculture. While at Texas Tech, he began his military career with the ROTC. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and, upon completion of Officer Candidate School, was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Field Artillery. He transitioned from the active military to the National Guard. In 1972, he received a medical discharge from the National Guard.

He began his teaching career in 1963 at the Newcastle Independent School District. He taught at Holliday High School in 1966 and 1967. In the fall of 1967, he moved to Archer City High School where he taught math until his retirement in 2003. He also coached numerous U.I.L. Math contestants in slide rule, calculator, number sense, and mathematics. For 23 consecutive years, his students advanced to state level competition.

For over 30 years, he volunteered countless hours to the Archer County Rodeo Association during the annual rodeos. He was a current member of the Ira Jones Post #198 of the American Legion. He also was an enthusiastic gardener who enjoyed providing produce for the Archer Service Center and local townspeople.

He and Linda Stovall were married Aug. 17, 1963, in Graham. She preceded him in death on April 22, 1996. He then married Shirley Gensler on Aug. 17, 2004, on the old Gray home place in Jack County.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley of the home; two sons, Jerry Gray of Carrollton, Texas, and Chris Gray and wife, Stephanie of Frisco, Texas; one brother, Jimmie Gray and wife, Shirley of Graham; one sister, June Broom and husband, Curtis of Oak Glenn Community, Jack County; two grandchildren, Bryn and Nicholas Gray of Frisco, Texas; and nieces and nephews.
