UNION - Alexander Scott Fant, 73, of 304 W. South St., died April 21, 1997, in Wallace Thomson Hospital after several years of declining health.

A native of Lockhart, he was a son of the late John Roy and Nathalie Hunter Fant.

He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, he was a member, past president and was a Paul Harris Fellow of the Union Rotary Club. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and retired in 1983 as lieutenant colonel with the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He attended Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of South Carolina. He was retired owner/operator of Alex S. Fant Exxon Distributor.

Survivors include his wife, Malinda McLendon Fant; one daughter, Gene Reid of High Point, N.C.; one son, A. Scott Fant of Union; three brothers, John Roy Fant Jr. of Lyman, Muray Gibbs Fant of Myrtle Beach and James Wilkes Fant of Columbia; and four granddaughters.

Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. today in the Presbyterian Cemetery, conducted by Father Lennart Pearson and Dr. Thomas W. Currie.

The family is at the home.
