Barbara Sue Burris, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2016 in Lawton. She was 79. Barbara was born Friday, August 14, 1936 in Blackwell, Oklahoma to John William and Martha Jane West Hoy.

Barbara attended and graduated from Marlow High School. While in high school, she played basketball and had although she was usually put on the other teams best player, she had a tendency to foul out. She graduated with the class of 1954.

Barbara married her sweetheart, Freddy Burris in Wichita Falls, Texas on June 25, 1954. She made Lawton her home most of her life, that is where she worked in the Lawton Public School system in Administration, Food and Substitution Services. Barbara enjoyed sports and she loved to play around a golf with Freddy, follow the Marlow Outlaws and where ever her brother Mickey was coaching. She also loved college football and women's basketball. Barbara was a very confident woman and would try anything because she just "knew" she could do anything. She was blessed with a close knit group of friends that she had numerous adventures with.

Barbara was known to be an excellent cook, who would change the recipes to make it better fit her taste. She always met challenges head on, never worried about things, kept her faith and a positive attitude while being supportive and encouraging to her family and friends. She will greatly missed by many.

Survivors include her husband, Freddy Burris of the home, son, Joe Burris and wife, Nora of Lawton, son, Jon Burris and wife, Amanda of San Antonio, Texas, daughter, Jana Russell of Marlow, five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, four brothers, Richard Hoy and wife, Garnet of Fountainhead, Mickey Hoy and wife, Karen of Marlow, David Hoy and wife, Deborah of Stillwater and Leslie Hoy and wife, Mariea of Knoxville, Tennessee, a sister, Dianne Dirickson and husband, Henry of Lawton. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by a brother, John Dennis Hoy.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2016 at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home with Mickey Hoy officiating. Burial will be in the Marlow Cemetery.
