VR says he was husband of Abiah (Page) and that he died 28 Jan 1828, of old age 85 years. This would calculate to a birthdate circa. 1743. The only known John Emery born in that time-frame was the son of Moses & Lydia (Woodman) Emery who married Elisabeth (Woodman). She died 1791, long after the 1779 marriage of John & Abiah (Page) Emery. The John Emery who died 28 Jan 1828 is buried next to John Emery, son of John & Elisabeth (Woodman) Emery; therefore, the preponderance of evidence points to an error in the vital records identifying John Emery who died 28 Jan 1828 as the husband of Abiah Page.

UPDATE 3 Apr 2020 from Chris H. Bailey, author:
In the late 1980s, I researched and in 1991 published a 294 page hardbound book entitled “Pages & Pages: Green Mountain Pioneers and other Descendants of Amos Page (1726-1788) of Haverhill, Mass.”

Abiah (Page) Emery was the sister of my direct Ancestor, Thomas Page (1766-1836) of Haverhill, MA, Cambridge, VT and Milan, OH. Pages 41 to 57 of my book has details on the descendants of John Emery, Jr. (b. Jan. 28, 1753 at Plaistow, NH; d. July 11, 1823 at Orford, NH of cancer, age 70.) and Abiah. Widow Abiah (Page) Emery (b. Dec. 14, 1757 at Haverhill, MA; died Feb. 22, 1837 in Peoria County, IL, age 79. She was buried in Trivoli Cemetery, Trivoli Township, Peoria County, IL. John and Abiah Emery had six children born at Haverhill, five of whom married and had descendants.

I included this note on p. 41:

The death of John Emery has been incorrectly stated a number of times, the most serious error being in the Haverhill, MA printed vital records which claims John Emery, “husband of Abiah Page” died Jan. 28, 1828 of “old age” age 85. The statement “husband of Abiah Page” is not an original record entry, but an erroneous insertion by the compiler of the volume. Besides being ten years too old to have been “our” John, the will of this John Emery who died in 1828 at Haverhill proves him to be John Emery, son of Moses and Lydia (Emery) Emery, (b. Mar. 12, 1743 at Newbury, MA and who had movement to Haverhill and raised a family). Plaistow, NH has also been claimed for the place of death of “our” John and in some records the date for the Haverhill record has been garbled with his correct death year to create Jan. 28, 1823, a date on which no John Emery died!
