Eric was born on December 3, 1967 in Lima to Connie Porter and Duane Williams. He was later adopted by Jesse Porter. On July 28, 1989 he married Michelle Cossey, who survives in Lima.

Eric graduated from Elida High School in 1986. From 1986-1995 he served in the U.S. Navy where he was a Machinist Mate and served in Desert Shield in 1990. He was an Instructor at Great Lakes Naval Base from 1992-1995. He was a 15 year employee at St. Rita's Medical Center, where he worked in the Maintenance Department. In 2012, he started work as the Director of Maintenance and Facilities at Shawnee Country Club.

Eric is survived by his sons, Jeffory of Lima OH, Jacob (Kylee) of Ft. Lewis, WA, & Joshua of Lima, OH and Michael & Rachel. He is also survived by his grandchildren Virginia Ree and Ezra Elan. Also surviving are: brothers Michael (Renee), Terry (Lori), Jesse (Corinne), Troy (Adrianne) & Tim (Renee), his brothers-in-law Ronnie (Ruby) and Tim (Tammy) and his sister Deena. He is loved by his nieces Grace, Deana, Emma, & Charlotte and his nephews Gene, Vincent, TJ & William. He is also survived by his "second mom," Donna Bowers.

He is preceded in death by his son Braden Thomas. He is loved by many, many friends who he thought of as family.

Everyone who knew Eric loved him. He was always there when someone needed him and he and Michelle always had their doors open. He was a second father to many of his sons' friends. Eric loved life, he breathed it deeply and lived it fully. He believed in working hard, loving his family and friends and living for the moment. One of his many joys in life was coaching Elida Thunder Youth Football for nine years, where he poured into the lives of many young men who will miss him dearly. For fifteen years, he cherished Sunday "breakfrast" with "the boys" at Happy Daz and a monthly breakfast ritual with his uncles. He loved spending time with his grandkids and he loved and was so proud of his sons. Eric enjoyed long rides on his bike with Michelle and weekend cookouts with friends. He had a huge heart and will be missed dearly.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL.
