Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2005,at First Baptist Church, Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Young, 66, died Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at his home.

Mr. Young was born February 25, 1939 in Shamrock, Texas; the son of Henry Young and Idell (Isaacs) Young.

He came to Artesia in 1942. He was a graduate of Artesia High School and attended Northwestern University in Chicago, Ill., Wayland Baptist University and the College of Santa Fe. He returned to Artesia in 1992 where he owned and operated Valley Moving and Storage.

Dwayne's former occupations include banking and working for F.D.I.C.; music teacher at Santa Fe Preparatory School; choir director at First Presbyterian Church in Sanfa Fe; accounting at Santa Fe and Northern N.M. Community Colleges; and owner and operator of Santa Clara Inn and Abrigo Real Estate in Santa Fe.

He was a musician who played the piano, organ and harp and was a tenor soloist. He started playing at First Baptist Church at age 14 and had played and directed choirs for several area churches.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Roswell, N.M., and First Baptist and First United Methodist Churches in Artesia. He was also a member of Rotary Club, Artesia Arts Council, Artesia Community Chorale and Artesia Community Theatre.

He was preceded in death by his father; and by a son David Young and by an aunt Oleta Rasco.

Survivors include his mother Idell Young of Waco, Texas; a daughter Dea "Angie" Young-Smith and husband Eric of Tucson, Arizona; a son John Henry "Tres" Young, III of New York City, N.Y.; a brother Dean Young and wife Joy of McGregor, Texas; grandchildren China Young of Lubbock, Texas and Morgan Smith of Tucson; and companions Kathleen A. Karstedt, and Annie M. Schnauzer and Winnie G. Schnauzer.
