ARTESIA - Mr. Juan L. Martinez, 63, of South Ninth Street, died Tuesday, March 21, 1995, at the Artesia General Hospital. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church with burial to follow in Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Father John Curran will officiate.
Mr. Martinez was born on May 23, 1931, in Carlsbad. He married Elosia Luevano in 1953 in Carlsbad. He came to Artesia in 1952 from Carlsbad and was a farm laborer. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and Cursillistas. He served the U.S. Army in the Korea War.
He is survived by his wife, Elosia Martinez of Artesia; sons, Sammy Luevano and David Martinez of Midland, Juan Martinez Jr. and Frankie Benevides of Hobbs and Johnny Luevano of Roswell; daughters, Nancy Losaya and Christina Martinez of Artesia and Socorro Ruiz of Roswell; brothers, Gill Martinez of Artesia, Pete Martinez of Phoenix, Ariz., Cepe Martinez of Roswell; sisters, Fannie Duran, Nellie Canales, Mary Hernandez and Allie Powell, all of Artesia, 26 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
