James L. Blum, 89, of Fornaciari Drive, Cementon, Whitehall Twp., died early Friday morning, May 27, 2011, VA Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County. He was the husband of Emelene R. (Kosman) Blum. Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Urban and Katie (Dougherty) Blum.

James worked in the chemical dept. and late in security for the former Trojan Powder Co., N. Whitehall Twp., 25 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ, Howertown. He was a 1933 graduate of Allen High School. A US Army Veteran of WWII, James served with the 2nd Ranger Bn, participated in Normandy Invasion of the European Theater, awarded Bronze Star and Arrowhead, achieved rank of Cpl. He was also a member of St. Francis Sick & Beneficial Society, Allentown.

Survivors: Wife; daughters, Janet L. wife of Dave Wintermute of Allentown, Gayle A. wife of William Chrvala of Whitehall Twp.; son, David J. and wife Dolores of Whitehall Twp.; four grandchildren, Karyn, Brian, Heather and Will; four step-grandchildren, Paulette, Michael, Michelle and Joey; three great-grandchildren, Kamron, Kaley and Chase; two step-great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Gabriel; sister, Gloria Maccaro of Winston Salem, NC; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister, Kathryn Yost, brother, Richard.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, St. Johns United Church of Christ, 22 Atlas Road, Northampton (Howertown), PA 18067. Call, 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday in the church. Interment with Military Honors, Greenwood Cemetery, Allen Twp. Arrangements, Schisler Funeral Home, Northampton.
