GILBERT, Rita Rose (Klemmer) of Burton, age 89, passed away Monday, October 11, 2010 at The Pines of Burton. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, G-5199 Richfield Rd., Flint; Rev. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski celebrant. Burial with military honors will be in Davison Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-8 PM Wednesday at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the Mass on Thursday at the church. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 PM Wednesday with the Daughters of Isabella. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Rosary Catholic Church or North End Soup Kitchen. Rita was born in Reading, PA, daughter of the late Raymond and Catherine (Mayer) Klemmer. She was a Sergeant in the Women,s Army Corp during WWII. Rita was a charter member of Holy Rosary Church, Miraculous Medal Guild, Altar Society and the Daughters of Isabella Regina Coeli #1095. In her earlier years, she was active in the Girl Scouts and in her later years, she volunteered at the North End Soup Kitchen. Rita was a member of the Holy Rosary 50 and Over Club, The Blue Army of St. John's Church, Davison and Legion of Mary. Rita is survived by her daughters, Kathy (Francis) Mercier, Judy (Jim) Schmelke, Dorothea (Vince) Seymour, Cynthia Miller; sons, Leslie "Chuck" (Sharron) Gilbert Jr., Daniel Gilbert (fiancé, Debra Lyden); 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Martin of Florida; sister-in-law, June Dolan; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Marcia Gilbert; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Peter; sister, Dorothy Klemmer; brother, Raymond Klemmer; grandson, Leslie "Charlie" Gilbert III; great-grandchildren, Lilli and Austin Schmitter and the father of her children, Leslie Gilbert, Sr. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the caring staff of The Pines of Burton.
