He was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sherman and attended the White's Chapel United Methodist Church in Southlake. He was an ordained Elder and served on many committees of his church and after retiring served Grace Presbytery for 20 years on the Committee on Ministry, on Court Functions, and the Administrative Council. He was a Rotarian for 50 years and served as President of the Sherman Rotary Club. He received a BS degree in 1948 from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Durant, Oklahoma, a MS degree in 1950 from Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma, and a Doctorate in 1958 from the University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma. He taught Math and Science in Albany, Oklahoma; Chemistry, Physics, and Math in McAlester, Oklahoma; and Physics and Math at Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He served as Principal of Harding High School in Oklahoma City; Superintendent of Washington District Schools in Kansas City, Kansas; and Superintendent of Sherman ISD in Sherman, Texas. In 2007 he was honored by the Sherman Ex-Students Association with the Distinguished Faculty Award.
He was preceded in death by his parents Monterey and Helen Hubbard of Albany, Oklahoma, his two brothers Preston of Keystone, Oklahoma and Gerald of Garland, Texas, and his loving wife of 50 years, Marjorie.
He is survived by his son, George Wendell Hubbard, Jr. and his wife Lisa of North Richland Hills, Texas, their children George Wendell III, Dawson, and Thomas; nieces Connie, Kathie, Chris of Norman, Oklahoma, Donna of San Diego, California; nephews Gerald of Arlington, Virginia, Don of Sherman, Texas, Monty of Singapore, and Dr. Richard Bass of Spokane, Washington; and sister-in-law May Del Redeker of Spokane, Washington.A Celebration of Life Service will be held at White's Chapel Methodist Church in Southlake, Texas at 10:30 AM on June 18, 2016.
