Amos J. Cormier Jr. on Thursday, June 16, 2016 passed peacefully surrounded by family.

Beloved husband of 47 years of
Aurèle Moinet Cormier.

Cherished father of
Amos III,
Arthur,
Mack,
Jene' Cormier, and
Meran Simonson (Chad).

Adored "Pa Paw" of
Roderick M. Cormier and
Vivian Aurèle Simonson.

He was preceded in death by his parents,
Amos and Lucy Barrois Cormier,

many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is survived by a host of cousins, and Godchildren.

Mr. Cormier was born at Hotel Dieu Hospital on November 14, 1945. He graduated from Port Sulphur High School and

Southeastern La. University with a B.A. in Education. He received his M.Ed. in Education Administration, and his Plus 30 in Guidance and Counseling from Loyola University, New Orleans.

He taught and coached at Port Sulphur High School, Delta Heritage Academy, and at Buras High School where his team won the 1990 AA Louisiana State Championship.

He was named LA Coach of the Year in both football and baseball.

He was elected to two terms as Parish Councilman, serving his hometown of Port Sulphur for eight years before being

elected Plaquemines Parish President in 2015.

Mr. Cormier was a loyal and devoted son of Plaquemines. The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the entire staff of Ochsner Westbank for the compassionate care of our husband and father.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Visitation at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expy., Harvey, LA on Sunday, June 19, 2016 from 6 PM to 10 PM. Visitation will resume at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Belle Chasse on Monday, June 20, 2016 from 9 AM to 12 Noon. A Funeral Mass will follow. Interment will take place in the Church Cemetery.
