Born Winneford Elizabeth Malvina Stanley (named for her father’s sister Winneford, who married Elijah Gibson) b 18 Mar 1842, d 27 Feb 1922; buried at Mars Hill Cemetery beside her daughter, Willie Godwin. Her grave is not marked. Winnie first married 1st Capt. Thomas Haynes Northcutt, b 8 Apr 1839, d 31 Aug 1864. He was killed at Battle of Jonesboro, CSA. Her daughter, Willie Haynes Northcutt was born in Dec 1864. We can only imagine the terror for Winnie Northcutt living in Georgia in the last months of the war, her husband dead and a newborn. She married 2nd James McLain.
