Donald Robert Blake, 85, of Byron died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, in OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center.

Born March 9, 1923, in Belvidere, son of Gilbert and Blanche (Whitney) Blake. Married Elaine O'Bryan on Nov. 21, 1952, in Belvidere.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery. He was a quality control engineer at Camcar Textron for 46 years, retiring in 2000, and a member of the American Society for Quality Control for more than 50 years.

Survived by wife, Elaine; daughter, Julie (Steve) Accola of Delavan, Wis.; son, Jeffry (Cathi) Blake of Rockford; grandchildren, Stuart and Elizabeth Accola and Allison Blake; sister, Doris (Laverne) Peterson of Rockford and Darlene Johns of Belvidere; brothers, Darwin (Donna) Blake of Belvi-dere and David (Muriel) Blake of Roscoe; sister-in-law, Betty Blake of Belvidere; close family friends, Ron and Nancy Svartolen, their daughters and families and Lois and Dave Flowers and family; many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by brothers, Derwood, Darrell and Dale Blake.

Service at 1 p.m. Monday, March 2, in the Chapel of Memories in Highland Garden of Memories, 9700 state Route 76, Belvidere, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Kopp officiating. Visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 1, in the Chapel of Memories.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family.
