Esther M. Ghist Curts, 91, formerly of Bucyrus and most recently residing in Westerville to be close to family, died Sunday morning at Manor Care in Westerville.
She was born in Bucyrus to the late William "Buckey" and Hilda Marie (Gearhart) Davis. Esther was a 1933 graduate of Bucyrus High School and worked at General Electric for 33 years in quality control before her retirement. In 1947 she married Walter Ghist, who preceded her in death in 1967. In 1971 she married Arthur "Bud" Curts, who predeceased her in 1981.
Esther was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, where she was active in the women's guild. She was also a member of the G.E. retirees club; American Legion Auxiliary Post 181, where she served as past president; a former member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 1078 and the 8 & 40 Chapter 309 in Crawford County.
She is survived by a daughter, Colleen (Ghist) Sigman of Westerville; four grandchildren, Stephen (Sue) Sigman of Dublin, Christine (James) Shirley of Columbus, Erin (David) Climer of Lancaster, and Michael Sigman of Dublin; three great-grandchildren, Chase Sigman, Emily and Mariah Climer; two sisters, Kathryn Baker of Sandusky, Ohio, and Janet Nichols of Cape Coral, Fla., and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she is preceded in death by a son-in-law, Robert Sigman II; grandson, Robert Sigman III and a sister, Dorothy McKim.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday and the funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Wise Funeral Home with the Rev. Patricia G. Minnick officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's U.C.C. or to the American Legion Women's Auxiliary through the funeral home.
