"Joe," as he was affectionately called, attended the public schools of Sumter County. He joined Bethel AME Church at an early age.
During his early teenage years, he moved to Jersey City, New Jersey, where he worked as a forklift driver. Upon returning to South Carolina in 1975, he was employed with Roosevelt Butler Residential Home for several years. He was married to the late Joyce Dixon Butler and later he was united in matrimony to Delores Robinson Butler.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Delores Robinson Butler; three sons, Steven (Thomasina) Butler, Keon (Latoya) Robinson and Rashad Robinson; one daughter, Lillian (Michael) Richbow; three brothers, Harrison (Evelyn) Butler III, Titus (Carrie) Butler and Roosevelt (Judy R.) Butler; one sister, Mary Lee (Thomas) Pearson; one aunt, Azalee Wilder; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services: Bethel AME Church, 1605 S. Kings Highway, Wedgefield, with the Rev. Larry D. Clark Sr., pastor, eulogist.
Burial: Bethel AME Church cemetery.
