Nathan L. Young, age 79 of the Town of Wescott, Shawano County, Wisconsin, was born into eternal life on Wednesday evening, June 15, 2016 at the ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton following a lengthy illness.

Nathan was born June 29, 1936 in the Town of Bovina, Outagamie County, Wisconsin, a son of the late Benjamin and Angarose (Lyons) Young. He attended school in Shiocton. Following school he entered the United States Army where he served from January, 1957 to January, 1959 as a combat engineer. He was stationed in Fort Devens, Mass. Upon returning from service, Nathan worked as a carpenter building homes.

On October 22, 1960 he was united in marriage to the former Nora Kay Sykes at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Stephensville. The couple remained in Stephensville until 1970 when they purchased the Hiawatha Lodge on Shawano Lake. The couple owned and operated the resort for nearly 25 years.

Nathan is a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He served on the Town of Wescott Fire Department. He was also a member of the Carpenters Union 955. Nathan was a major “Mr. Fix It” and neighborhood helper. He enjoyed building things for his grandchildren, and traveling. He truly valued his family.

Survivors include his wife, Nora Kay Young of the Town of Wescott; his daughter, Shawn (Mike) Cronce of Hortonville; three grandchildren, Chelsea (Brent) Williams of Appleton, Amber (Matt) Moericke of Greenville, and Michael Cronce of Hortonville; one great-grandson, Landon Moericke; four brothers, Norman (Carol) Young of Marion, Jerry (Linda) Young of Shawano, Eugene (Lorraine) Young of Bonduel, and Benny (Kathy) Young of Shiocton; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Knoke of Shiocton and Linda Schultz of Hortonville; one brother-in-law, Sam (Janice) Sykes of Black Creek; and many nieces and nephews. Nathan was preceded in death by two brothers, Eldren “Lee” Young and Lorien Young; and one sister, Phyllis Oureada.

A Funeral Mass for Nathan Young will be celebrated on Monday, June 20, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. Father Luke Ferris will be the Celebrant. Interment will take place in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Stephensville, Wisconsin. Relatives and friends may call at Sacred Heart Catholic Church from 9:30 AM until the hour of service. AmVets Post #10 will conduct full military honors at the church.
