Randall Nelson, 63, of Spooner, WI, died Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Spooner Health System. He was born August 20, 1952 in Rice Lake, WI to Bill and Bee (Shipman) Nelson.

He graduated from Spooner High School in 1970. He attended Barron County campus. He took first place in the Wisconsin State Forensic Tournament for After Dinner Speaking.

Randy worked at the Spooner Dairy Queen from 1964-2013. He started out working in the family business in high school, became the Assistant Manager and eventually operated the Spooner Dairy Queen from 1990-2013

Randy had a passion for bird hunting and always took pride in having quality hunting dogs to go along with him. He would go on yearly pheasant hunting trips to North Dakota or Iowa. He dearly loved his Gordon Setters, Kenna and Dillon. They were his constant companions. Randy was also an avid fan of Wisconsin sports, especially the Badgers and Green Bay Packers.

He is survived by 2 brothers, Jeff (Jill Braser) Nelson of Apex, NC and Jan (Mary) Nelson of Winona, MN; a nephew, Derek (Christine) Nelson of Woodbury, MN; a niece Julie (Alvaro Sanz) Nelson, Columbia, MO, his precious grandnieces and grandnephew, Char, Evie and Lucas Nelson; his Aunt and Uncle Sandi and Arlan Gunderson of Chetek; and many dear cousins and friends.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents William and Bee Nelson; and brother, David Nelson. A memorial service will be at 12:00 noon on Saturday, April 30 at United Methodist Church, in Spooner with Rev. Jack Starr officiating. Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. until the hour of the service on Saturday at the church. Interment will follow in Spooner Cemetery.
