Katherine Kenner Gardner passed away June 16, 2016 in Bountiful, Utah from natural causes at age 86.

She was born July 20, 1929 in Logan, Utah, to Robert Lee and Kirma Parkinson Peterson Kenner.

As a youth she lived in Arizona, California, and Utah.

Katherine taught school in London, England before raising her family in Salt Lake City, Utah. She married Bryan Bellamy Gardner, August 17, 1959 in the London Temple. He passed away December 28,1998. The last fifty four years of her life were richly lived on DeSoto Street.

Katherine was actively engaged in worthy causes. Her acceptance of church callings including president of the Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society organizations (thankfully not all at once) enabled her to serve people throughout her life. She also sought out other ways to serve, including volunteering as hostess at the Beehive House, Church History Museum, the Utah State Capitol, Salt Lake Council of Women and Senate Hostess and Aide. She had an active interest in politics and served on the Salt Lake Community Council.

Her vocation as school teacher, gave her a relationship with thousands of children. She loved children at play, and she loved to take children to plays.

Katherine enjoyed travel and books. She knew books would take one on many travels, and loved discussing and sharing the magic of them. She and Bryan authored a children’s book. She believed in the arts as she knew how they ennoble the soul. She supported music and theater organizations, and enriched her home with the physical arts.

She seemed at first to follow sports only to be part of general family interest, but was later found watching many Utah Jazz games on her own. She believed in supporting Market Street Grill and El Matador restaurants and anyone who sold fudge. She cherished family gatherings, and would often express this sentiment about ten minutes before leaving them.

Katherine loved all things England. This was in large part due to the best thing she brought back to America from London: her husband Bryan. This set in motion her daughters occasionally lapsing into a British accent with varying degrees of success.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ was an anchor to Katherine. She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved the gospel and expressed that love in word and deed. Her devotion to the gospel enhanced her gifts of generosity, charity, laughing often, enhancing self-esteem of family and friends, and being tenderhearted.

Katherine is loved and survived by her daughters: Shannon (Mark) Hall, Lorraine (Clark) Richardson, Renee (Jim) Kidd, Ruth Hill and Julie (John) Coleman; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and siblings: Peter G. Kenner, Mary (David) Steiner and Kirma “Kay” (Lyman) Hamblin.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and brother, Lee (Allie Beth) Kenner.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, June 21st at 11 am at the Ensign Peak Ward, 155 N. Sandrun Road, SLC. Friends and family may call Monday from 6-8 pm at the Capitol Hill 2nd Ward, 413 N. West Capitol, SLC. and Tuesday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the Ensign Peak Ward prior to the service.

Interment is at Salt Lake City Cemetery.
