Daughter of William Joshua and Isabel (Stoddard) Jackson and sister of Donald Jackson, Winabel worked as a telephone operator for a time. She married Garrett O. Van Dyk on October 8, 1935 in Island County. She served in England as a WAC during World War II. She was a switchboard operator there as well. After the war she lived in California. In San Francisco she married John Stiles Nettleton on May 20, 1950. Later she moved to San Antonio, Texas.
