Elisha was the son of John Cole and Susanna Hutchinson of Boston, Mass. and Kingstown, Rhode Island. His mother was the only survivor of a massacre in which his famous grandmother, Anne Hutchinson, perished with many of her children in what is now Bronx, New York.

Elisha was married in 1713 to Elizabeth DEXTER, b. Sandwich, Mass. 2 Nov 1683, d. Newport, RI 1 Oct 1756, the daughter of John Dexter and Mehitable Hallett of Sandwich and Portsmouth. They had six children, b. N. Kingstown, RI 1715 to 1725. Elisha's inventory was taken in N. Kingstown, RI on 18 April 1729.

The burial location for Elisha has not been determined, but he was likely buried in London where he died while settling a legal matter. His widow Elizabeth is buried in the Common Burial Ground in Newport, RI. Children, all b. N. Kingstown, RI:

* Thomas, b. say 1714, d. 1722; unless he was a twin of one of the next four children, he must have been the oldest child.

* John, b. 1715

* Edward, b. 1717

* Susannah, b. 1719

* Elizabeth, b. 1721
