Corporal Donald W. Jackson graduated from Coupeville High School, then spent some time on the staff of the Island County Times, then with the CCC. In 1936 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed with the 24th Pursuit Squadron in the Panama Canal Zone. Not normally on flying duty, he was a passenger in a small plane when it crashed near Rio Hato, killing both occupants.

He was survived by his mother, Mrs. Otto Van Dyk of Oak Harbor, his father, Major William J. Jackson of New Orleans, Louisiana, and his sister, Mrs. Garrett (Winabel) Van Dyk of Oak Harbor.
