Wayne A. Meyer, 84 years of age of Mantua, Ohio passed away on Sunday June 12, 2016. Wayne was born in 1932 in Dakota, Illinois, the son of the late Harper and Gladys (Wise) Meyer.

He graduated from Polo High School in Polo, Illinois in 1950. On September 14, 1952, Wayne was united in marriage with his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 64 years, Norma (Donaho) Meyer. Wayne honorably served in the United States Army where he was a First Lieutenant and heavy weapons instructor at Ft. Riley, Kansas.

He and Norma moved to Mantua in 1959. Wayne owned and operated Meyer Maintenance and Construction which primarily built and maintained service stations. His handy work can be seen today in the Henry Ford Museum as he reconstructed the Texaco station which is part of the Driving America Exhibit. During his 57 years in Mantua, Wayne raised five children with Norma, and following retirement, Wayne and Norma became avid ballroom dancers. He was a member of the Mantua Center Christian Church, served on the Crestwood Local Schools Board of Education, and was a member of Mantua American Legion Post No. 193 where he assisted many time with the Legion Honor Guard for funeral services both locally and at the National Cemetery. His hobbies included tinkering, gardening, and collecting.

Wayne is survived by his wife Norma, his children Steve (Sally) Meyer of Ravenna, Leanne (Jim) Doll of Hiram, Dave (Kristen) Meyer of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Randy (Janet) Meyer of Twinsburg, and Chris (Beth) Meyer of Aurora, twelve grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers Vernon Meyer, Willard Meyer, Richard Meyer and Lowell Meyer, all of Illinois. He was preceded in death by his sisters Lavonne Diehl, Marilyn Fontana, Roberta Weber and Allene Gilbert.

No calling hours. Funeral services will be Thursday June 16, 2016, 11:00 A.M. at The Mantua Center Christian Church, 4118 St. Rt. 82, Mantua, Ohio 44255 with Pastor Chad Delaney officiating. Full military honors will be provided by members of The United States Army Honor Guard Team, assisted by members of Mantua American Legion. A reception and time of fellowship will then immediately follow in the church social hall. Final resting place will take place at a later date at Westlawn Cemetery in Mantua Township, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested and would be appreciated to the Mantua Center Christian Church. Arrangements are by the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua.
