Lydia A. Longstreth was born on 18 July 1825, near Deavertown, OH; was married to Benjamin Underwood 1847; d. 1 Aug 1908; became a member of United Brethren Church at Oak Grove, near her childhood home and remained a faithful member as long as she lived in that state.
Soon after moving to Iowa in 1854 she united with the M.E. church at what was known as the Bragg
school house where Father Nixon was holding meetings. After several years she changed her
membership to Afton.
She was ever a loving wife, mother, a good neighbor & full of good deeds, ever ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in trouble. Her faith in her Savior never wavered. Altho unconscious most of the time she regained consciousness long enough to recognize those of her children by her bedside. The last word intelligible was "Jesus" and soon after she passed away as though into a peaceful sleep.
She leaves 4 children: K. W. Underwood, Griswold; L. W. Underwood, Council Bluffs, J. E., Elliott, Mrs. Lucetta Bray, Afton; her husband having preceded her to the spirit world some twelve years ago.
