A native of McDowell County, Alvin was born on July 16, 1926 and was the son of the late Charlie Callahan and Wilhemina Grindstaff Callahan.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Marion. He worked in the construction industry for a number of years and later retired from the City of Marion as Building Inspector. Alvin was a WWII veteran of the US Navy (Seabees).
In addition to his parents, his wife of 59 years, Hazel Owenby Callahan, and his grandparents, Lennie and Mae Grindstaff preceded him in death.
Surviving Mr. Callahan is a son, Gene Callahan and wife, Tammy of Marion; one grandson, Chris Callahan and wife Amber of Marion; two great grandchildren, twins Colton and Chase Callahan; and a special brother-in-law, Alvin Owenby of Nebo.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Oak Grove Cemetery.
