Services for John H. Mateer 69, of 1339 Forest Ave., will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Evangelical United Brethren church in Afton, of which he was a member, with burial in the cemetery at Afton.
Mr. Mateer died of a heart ailment Sunday at Broadlawns General hospital, following a six month illness. He was born in Afton, and for many years he was sexton of the Afton cemetery. He moved to Des Moines about three years ago.
Surviving are a son, Harold of Los Angeles, Cal.; a daughter Mrs. Etna Palmer of Des Moines; a brother, Arthur of Woodburn; three sisters, Mrs. Lottie Elliot of Afton, Mrs. Bessie Nye of Lincoln, Neb., and Mrs. Florence Gripp, with whom Mr. Mateer had been making his home; six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
