Joshua was four years old when he came from TN to Johnson Co.,IL with his parents John & Sarah Short Copeland. Joshua is buried on land he owned in Sec. 31, Twp.14, Range 3. He bought this farm on 17 Nov 1837. He was the owner of a large general store located one mile north of Sharp's Landing (where his parents, John & Sarah Short Copeland, lived and are buried. This was the former Fred T. Riley farm.)
He married(1) Elizabeth A. Axley in 1835, Johnson Co., IL. He married (2) Caroline Delphia Evers, 26 June 1856, the day after her 23rd birthday, in IL.
Joshua was a member at Lower Salem Methodist Church. He was a Royal Arch Mason, Fraternally. His tombstone has a Mason etching on one side. Joshua and Elizabeth had eleven known children. Joshua and Caroline Evers had eight known children.
Joshua was a Merchant, Farmer and County Judge.
