Annie Ruth Alley Kirby, 88, died Monday, June 13, 2016 at her home following a year of declining health. She was born on December 9, 1927 in King, North Carolina to Joseph Mallard Alley and Minnie Lee Tuttle Alley. She grew up in King, and was a life-long member of King Moravian Church. Annie Ruth worked with Prudential Insurance, BF Huntley, the US Post Office, Peoples' Bank and retired from First Citizens Bank in King. Annie Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Marvin Gray Kirby. They built their home in Tobaccoville in 1962 and enjoyed a wonderful life on their farm. Annie Ruth enjoyed sewing, needlework, cooking, and gardening. She spent much time giving care to her loved ones. She and Marvin spent much time traveling in retirement. Annie Ruth was preceded in death by her siblings, Irene Alley Strader, Frank Mallard Alley, Frances Alley Dellinger, J.M. Alley, and Estelle Alley Kiger. Surviving Mrs. Kirby is her son, Marvin Gray Kirby, Jr. and his wife, Kay Kirby, of Chapel Hill. She leaves behind her two granddaughters, Erin Kinney and Teresa Kirby. The family would like to say a special thanks to Teresa Trammell for the wonderful care she gave to Annie Ruth for the past year. And a special thanks to the wonderful staff at Hospice and Palliative Care of Forsyth County. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the King Moravian Church, Alzheimer's Research or Care, or Hospice and Palliative Care of Forsyth County. The funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, June 17, 2016 at King Moravian Church with Rev. Jimmie Newsom Jr. officiating with a graveside committal service at God's Acre in King immediately following.
