Marian Helen Harris
October 12, 1914- June 1, 2016

Marian was born in Parkrose, Oregon on October 12, 1914 to John and Lou Ella (Northrop) Shoemaker, the fifth of six children. She received her wings on June 1, 2016 at her home in Scappoose where she had lived 68 years.

She moved to Scappoose with her family in 1932. After graduating from Grant High School in 1932, she attended business school in Portland, Oregon. Marian met her future husband, James Harris, at the roller skating rink in St. Helens. They were married in her parents living room December 26, 1939 in Scappoose. Jim entered WWII in 1944 leaving Marian to raise their two boys on an enlisted man’s military pay. She supplemented her family income by working in the family business. In 1963 she went to work for the Scappoose School District for 15 years as school district clerk.

Marian most loved being with family. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing and cooking.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John; sisters: Luella Hebieson, Margaret (Heller) Neuman and Ruth (Reed) DeGroot. She is survived by her brother, Robert Shoemaker (Jeanne); four children: James (Willow), John (Candy), Virgina Harris, and Julie Vanorden; 5 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

She was a kind and loving mother and will be missed by family and friends.

Services will be held June 9, 2016 at 1:00pm at Columbia Funeral Home in St. Helens. Reception following the service.

In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Legacy Hospice.

Private interment will be held at Willamette National Cemetery.
