A teacher at Singing River Headstart for over 35 years until her retirement, a volunteer at Red Cross and the voting precinct, an attendee at AARP community services and the George County Senior Citizens Center and a faithful member of Basin Temple COGIC, she died May 28. She was born January 3, 1937 in Basin.
She is survived by her daughters Sharon Perine-Crawford and Jalisa Zimmerman; devoted son Ronald (Mae Nell) Phillips; grandchildren Carmen (Quintin) Cooley, Raynard C. Perine, Robert Lee (Kenika) Lett III, Ronald Alan Phillips, Jr., Jonathan Phillips, Janene Phillips; ten great-grandchildren; brother Joe (Carolyn) Eckford; sister Dianne Eckford; sisters-in-law; brother-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and devoted friends.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Nila Phillips; parents Jodie and Nattie Eckford; brothers Johnnie Eckford and Dennis Eckford; and sisters Narvie Lee Lewis, Ruthie Brown and Voncile Moulds.
Pallbearers included Lattimore Phillips Jr., Timothy Carr, Glen Lawrence, Glen Burkett, Sammy Nix, Willie Perryman and Tony Clark. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Lee Lett III, Raynard C. Perine, Joe E. Eckford and Gene Moulds.
Cowan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
