FORT ATKINSON - Suzanne French-Wilson, age 76, passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, June 14, surrounded by her loved ones at the Blackhawk Senior Residence. Sue was born April 13, 1940, in Toledo, Ohio, the middle daughter of Charles and Trola French. She graduated from Julienne Catholic High School in Dayton, Ohio, in 1958. After relocating from Ohio to Jefferson, Wis., Sue worked as a teller at the Jefferson County Bank, then sold furniture at Jefferson T.V. and Appliance. On July 29, 1989, Sue married the love of her life, Lloyd Gene Wilson, in Jefferson. She went back to school later in life and earned a Medical Office certificate from Blackhawk Technical College in Janesville. She wrote and published a book, The Senior Trip: Lunch is On Your Own, a comically true story about a senior citizen bus trip that goes seriously awry. Sue and Gene were snowbirds for several years in the 1990s, spending their winters in Winter Haven, Fla., and summers in Wisconsin. She enjoyed travel and golf, with two holes-in-one on her scorecard. (There were witnesses.) She is survived by her wonderful husband, Gene, of Fort Atkinson; daughter Laurie (Mike) Steen of Cottage Grove; daughter by marriage, Christine (Myron) Kexel of Winter Haven, Fla.; three grandchildren, Charles Steen of Ann Arbor, Mich., Daniel Steen of Oregon, Wis., and Jessica Steen of Eau Claire; a granddaughter by marriage, Kiva (Jason) Roth of Fort Atkinson; three beautiful great grandchildren by marriage, Jada Schumacher, Kiele Roth and Kade Roth; sisters Margaret (David) Currie of Boise, Idaho, and Barbara (Robert) Crofcheck of Florence, Ariz.; sister-in-law Pamela (Butch) Wetzel of Chicago Heights, Ill.; and sister-in-law Judy French of Winter Haven, Fla. In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her brother James (Judy) French of Winter Haven, Fla.; sister-in-law Suzanne Wilson of Huntsville, Ala.; nephews Michael (Kelly) French and Robert French of Vandalia, Ohio; and maternal grandmother, Florence Victoria Robinson of Dayton, Ohio.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, June 17 at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jefferson, Wisconsin. (Elderly/handicapped parking is available in the lot behind the church.) Father Thomas Coyle will officiate, assisted by Father Bill Nolan. Burial will be in St. Josephs Cemetery in Fort Atkinson following the reception. A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 16 from 4:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Nitardy Funeral Home in Fort Atkinson, and again on Friday, June 17 from 10-11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
