She relocated to Mobile, AL. with her family where she attended Mobile County Public Schools and graduated from Blount High in 1963. In her youth, she was a member of Metropolitan AME Church. She was the eldest of her siblings. She has lived in Chicago and Pittsburg, settling in New York City in 1968 where she reunited with and married her childhood sweetheart, Roosevelt.
Flo’s life was one of support and of service, raising her own children with a firm, empathetic spirit, while working full time in the non-profit sector for most of her professional career. In her neighborhood in Queens, NY, she not only raised her family, but also became a surrogate mother to many young people seeking the stability and warmth of a caring household. She retired to the place she called home—Mobile, AL—with her committed and dutiful husband Roosevelt Turner. An active member of Church Women United, Flo lived the remainder of her days serving her community, surrounded by family and friends.
Her remains will lie in state Friday June 17, 2016 @ Metropolitan AME Church in Mobile, Al from 10am until the 11am Homegoing Celebration with Rev Dr. Eugenia Johnson, Pastor and officiating Minister.
Interment will follow in Alabama State Veterans Cemetery. The Final Tribute and Life Celebration is entrusted to the Dignified, Professional staff of Samuel L. Jackson's Mortuary, ltd 271 North Cody Road, Mobile, Al 36608 Samuel L. Jackson,III Licensed Funeral Director
