John was the son of Sargeant Beasley (born in Morgantown, OH) and Alemeda Loy (born in Morgantown, OH).

John's father was a Civil War veteran; when he returned from the service they moved to St. Joseph, MO.

He married Rose M. Lough of Sutton, West Virginia on October 20, 1897. They had 12 children.

John and his brother, James, staked claims in the Cherokee Strip, OK Terrtory when it opened. They came to Clayton, NM in 1930.

John was preceded in death by the youngest child, Allen, who passed at the age of 6 months.

He is survived by wife; children: Mrs. Viola Peterson, Grand Junction, CO; Mrs. Violet Miller, Hugoton, KS; Mrs. Della Lahey, Ulysses, KS; Mrs. Tina Imel, Grand Junction, CO; Mrs. Nina Slemp, Moscow, KS; Mrs. Leona Cornelius, Miles, TX; Mrs. Iva Miller, Isabel, KS; Mrs. Myrtle Severs, Flint, MI; John, Holt and Myron Beasley, Clayton, NM; sister, Mary L. Meadows, Oklahoma City, OK and brother, James, Hooker, OK.
