Salisbury Post -- Mr. Horton was a 1948 graduate of Mt. Ulla High School. He was a lifelong member of Amity Lutheran Church where he was a Sunday school teacher and served on the church council.

Mr. Horton was a United States Army veteran having served in Japan during the Korean Conflict. He was co-owner of Horton Brothers Builders Supermarket, Mooresville, and a farmer, raising Black Angus Cattle. Mr. Horton served on the Board of Directors for 45 years at Energy United and served as president for many of those years. He served as a Director of Federated Rural Electric Insurance Exchange. Mr. Horton was past member of the Mooresville Rotary Club also having served as president and was named a Paul Harris Fellow. He served as a Director of the Mooresville-South Iredell Chamber of Commerce and the Mooresville Merchants Association.

Mr. Horton was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorcus Horton Sechrest and Betty Horton Brown; and brother, Joe Carmon Horton.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Ann Lineberger Horton, whom he married May 2, 1953; children, Jimmy Ray Horton, Jr., of Laurel Springs, Lee Ann Horton and Jon Allison Horton and wife Jenny, all of Mt. Ulla; grandchildren, Winston Ray of Mt. Sterling, Ill., Sydney Christine Horton, of Charlotte Jon Brantley Horton, of Annapolis, Md., Mary Allison Horton and Susannah Hope Horton, both of Mt. Ulla; brother, Jesse Lee Horton, Jr. of Mt. Ulla; sister, Naomi Horton Holshouser of Rockwell; and many special nieces and nephews.married Betty Ann Lineberger on 5-2-1953
