Westerly - On June 11, 2016, Barbara Ann (Donovan) Dwyer, daughter of the late Michael F. and Stacia Donovan, went to eternal rest, thus reuniting with her beloved daughter, Kelly Elizabeth Dwyer, who predeceased her on May 11, 2011.
Raised and educated in Norwich, Barbara attended St. Patrick Cathedral School and the Norwich Free Academy. A graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing, she became the director of radiology at the VA Center in Rocky Hill.
There, she met and married John J. Dwyer, who predeceased her.
Over the past 30 years, Barbara resided near the seashore in Westerly, with her partner, Daniel Simonelli. After retiring, she spent winters in Vero Beach, Fla.
Barbara leaves behind her beloved Dan Simonelli; her brothers, M. William (Lorraine Cordeau), Edward J. (Irene), Ronald F. (Donna Landry), and Duane D. Donovan; nephews and nieces, Michael (Lynn Crisanti), Elizabeth (Robert Yalin), Denise (Sasha Lam-Plattes), Sharon (Louis Fenn) and Sandy (Jay Driscoll); grandnephews and grandnieces, Kevin, Aaron, Amelia, Alexander, Luke and Ruby Mae.
Barbara loved the beach, stories of the good old days, and always had an Irish sparkle in her eye. She will be deeply missed by everyone.
Visiting hours will be held from 9 to 10:15 a.m. on Thursday at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly, immediately followed a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Clare Church, 62 Crandall Ave., Westerly. Interment will take place at River Bend Cemetery, Westerly.
