William Shaffer Succumbs at 61

Sweetwater - William Alvy Shaffer, 61, Nolan County Courthouse custodian and a resident of the county for 37 years, died after a brief illness at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at his home, 104 McCaulley St.

Born in Limestone County on Dec. 10, 1900, he married Ruby Bradberry on Sept. 5, 1939.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Nolan Church of Christ, with Novele Baize of Abilene officiating. Burial will be in Slater Chapel Cemetery with Cate-Spencer Funeral Home in charge.

Surviving are his wife; one son, Gene Shaffer of Sweetwater; one daughter, Earlene Head of Sweetwater; two sisters, Mrs. J. D. Rowland of Roscoe and Mrs. Lois Miller of Big Spring; three brothers, Mack of Commerce, Lewis of Sweetwater and Cleveland of Plains.
