Sweetwater - Irving Loeb, 71, longtime Sweetwater civic leader, died at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at West Texas Medical Center in Abilene after a short illness.
Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Garden of Memories with Cate-Spencer Funeral Home directing.
Born June 13, 1905, at Austin, Texas, he married Fannie Levy in 1931 in Dallas. He was a graduate of Austin High School. In 1927, he graduated from the University of Texas with an electrical engineering degree. He was an engineer with Texas Power and Light Co. before moving to Sweetwater in 1934.
He became associated with Levy Dept. Store and later became partner in that business. He was a member of the State Board of Directors of Texas Retail Dry Goods Assn., a member of the State Board of Directors of the Texas Retail Credit Assn.
Mr. Loeb was active in the Girl Scouts and served as treasurer of the West Texas Area Girl Scout Council. He was also a member of the Buffalo Trail Council of Boy Scouts.
